Heavy metal class – Waldorf High School in the news
Here’s a link to a nice story about blacksmith John Graney and our students from today’s Berkshire Eagle.
High School Visits Metropolitan Museum of Art
On Wednesday, November 4, we chose to spend the day in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Each class had a different assignment. Ninth graders had just finished a course in History through Art, and spent the day roaming from Egypt through Greece, Rome, the Italian and Northern Renaissances, to Rembrandt and, later, the Impressionists, taking notes and sketching.
Iron Forging and Metaphor
In his first class, John Graney gives each student a length of square iron stock and teaches how to round, taper, flatten, bend, and drill it to form a hook. He also teaches how to maintain a coal fire at the right temperature, and how to tell by color the temperature of the metal.
Seniors Study Tide Pool Zoology in Maine
For the fourth time, our Senior Class spent a week studying tide pool zoology–where scientists believe life arose–on Hermit Island, Maine. We joined 100 students from seven other Waldorf schools (75 students from 5 more Waldorf schools were there the week before) from Sunday, September 20, to Friday, September 25.

We are pleased to announce that Peter Podol will teach Spanish in our High School this year. Dr. Podol has a PhD in Romance Languages and a BA in Spanish from the University of Pennsylvania and an MA in Spanish from Columbia University.
Orientation at Camp Hi-Rock
We conducted our sixth annual High School Orientation at Camp Hi-Rock from Sept. 9 to Sept. 11. The rain held off until the last day (when we completed the high ropes course, regardless). The students were incredibly well-behaved, responsible, and helpful to each other, to staff and to their teachers.
Postgraduate Year
Would you benefit from a structured semester or more between high school and college, one that includes time to mature, to add to your high school transcript, to complete a portfolio of your work, and to find the best college for you?
