If you love the feeling of ice-cold wind flying across your face while bolting down mountains covered in snow, then you are like me. Starting in January, the Berkshire Waldorf High School offers a ski program at both Butternut and Catamount.
Butternut has fully opened the whole mountain, the lifts, and the trailers. For a beginner, I would recommend a green, at the top of outlook triple if you take a lest at the top of the chairlift it will take you to uptown and then from that if you stay on the trail you find yourself on crosstown and that will bring you to the opposite side of the mountain; from there, take one last green trail to take you to bottom of the hill.
However, whether you’re a snowboarder or skier and are intermediate, I would start trying out the terrain park and blues. Lastly, for experts, black diamonds, and if you want something even more challenging, there is an unmarked woods trail off of luscious leap (a black diamond off of Highline quad). Overall, Butternut is an excellent mountain for skiing and snowboarding.
The ski program for Catamount talks plays on Friday; since the BWHS does not have school on friday. The Catamount School Group Program provides each participant with a 4 hour On Mountain Pass, which is valid only for the predefined number of weeks (usually 6) starting on friday, January 7th, and ending just before February break, as designated by the group organizer.
