Athletics

We field competitive teams for two seasons of the year: Soccer in the fall and basketball in the winter, playing against local private schools, Simon’s Rock College, and homeschool teams. We also offer spring sports, depending on student interest—tennis, lacrosse, baseball, or softball. Teams practice 3 times per week after school and play several games per season. Our home soccer field is the Park Street Field in Stockbridge and our home basketball court is at the Stockbridge Town Hall.

We are members of the MIAA (Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association) so our students can co-op with public school teams, most recently the Monument Mountain (Berkshire Hills) boys’ football team. Other co-op agreements may be possible, again, based on student interest and availability.

In addition to team sports, we currently offer a golf elective in fall and spring. We close school at noon on Tuesdays in January and February so the whole high school can ski at Butternut. We also offer a Friday evening ski package at nearby Catamount ski area, too. And in the summer, students have done stand-up paddle-boarding as a school group.

Elective physical education classes currently alternate between school, local fields and trails, and Lumberjack Athletics in Sheffield.

As part of our outdoor education program, 9th graders plan and participate in a week-long hike in early May. Past hikes have included the Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway and nearby portions of the Appalachian Trail.

10th graders spend a week of service with Greenagers, and 12th graders camp on Hermit Island, Maine, for a week each September to study tide pool zoology.
